I have LOVED Matcha Tea Lattes since college. I had one today. They’re refreshing, unique, and FULL of antioxidants.
I recently ate a matcha green tea macaroon. (It was delicious.) I immediately thought, “I need to make these”. Then, I remembered that I have no idea how to make a macaroon. I don’t even know where to start. So, I decided to make Matcha Green Tea Cookies.
And, that’s how this recipe was created!
How to Make Matcha Green Tea Cookies
Fortunately, I already had a bag of matcha green tea powder. I usually mix it with Vanilla Whey Protein Powder and milk for an extra healthy protein shake after I work out. It’s not the highest quality of matcha powder, which is why my cookies are a duller, darker shade of green. They’re not as visually appealing as I wanted, but they taste AMAZING. And that’s what counts!
If you want vibrant, BRIGHT green cookies, you will need to use a high quality matcha green tea powder. Ceremonial grade is perfect for this, but it can be expensive. Below are some great options.
If you do not care about looks and just want a delicious cookie, I recommend a cheaper, culinary matcha green tea powder, like the ones below.
Why White Chocolate?
White Chocolate Chips balance the unique, somewhat bitter flavor of green tea. The combination is DIVINE! It’s truly addictive. I ate several Matcha Green Tea White Chocolate Cookies in a row… and more later.
I personally would not use semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips. The flavor of regular chocolate is too strong and acidic for the delicate taste of matcha green tea.
Without any chocolate, the cookies may not be sweet enough. The recipe does include brown sugar. I like to use brown sugar because it creates a soft, chewy texture. If you think this will provide enough sweetness for you and you do not like white chocolate, you can definitely skip the chocolate. You could also add a little white sugar. Have some fun with it!
